Mae A. Springan

Mae Springan, 89, Bismarck, died March 6, 2011, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 10, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Washington St. and Divide Ave, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday, March 9, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Mae was born May 26, 1921, in Reynolds, ND, the daughter of Joe and Mayme Bye Keller. She was raised and attended schools in Northwood, ND, where she graduated from high school. Mae then attended Mayville State Teachers College. It was while teaching in Stanley that Mae met the love of her life, Paul Springan. They were married on August 26, 1945, in Northwood, ND. They moved to Bismarck in 1951 where they had since resided. Paul died in April 2010. Mae was very involved in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a member of P.E.O. Chapter AJ. She and Paul were avid Bismarck High School Demons fans and rarely missed a game. She also loved getting together with her Friday coffee klatch. Mae loved animals and was a supporter of the Humane Society. She was Nana who made the best chocolate syrup brownies ever to her 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. And in her final three years at Missouri Slope she was "Sweet Mae" to her many, many wonderful caregivers. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for so lovingly caring for her. Mae is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pam Jim Sola, Boise, ID, Marcia Steve Herman, Bismarck; and Paula Glenn Wager, Longmont, CO; her grandchildren, Chad Herman, Jeremy Dayjah Herman, Scott Kimberly Herman, Kory Orheim, Kris Bethany Orheim, Adam Wager, and Brooke Wager; one great-grandson, Cameron Herman and one great-granddaughter, Kaylin Herman; her sister, June Palm, Murdock, MN; her sisters-in-laws, Edna Frostad, Auburn, WA, and Anna Marie Bill Whitmore, Stanley, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; an infant son; her brothers-in-laws, Rolf and Arne; and her sister-in-law, Margaret. Memorials may be given to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck or the Humane Society.
