Margaret Schneider

Margaret "Peg" Schneider, 84, Bismarck, was welcomed into heaven on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at St. Alexius Hospital. Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 1, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church in Bismarck with the Reverend Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service in Bismarck where a rosary service will be begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Margaret Jeanne was born in Kearney, NE, on January 10, 1923, the daughter of Robert N. and Mary Shanahan Osborne. She was raised, grew up and schooled in Kearney. On May 2, 1942, she married Robert J. Schneider at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. May 2, 2007, will mark 65 years of their partnership together. Following Robert's service in WWII, the couple made their home in McCook and Falls City, NE, before moving to Valley City in 1952. Peg was the head of the purchasing department at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, retiring in 1988 after 30 years of working with the Sisters of Mercy. After retirement she traveled with her husband, making a trip to her grandparent's ancestral home of Ireland in 1988. Peg loved to cook and entertain and was widely known for her cooking and baking talents. Besides spending time with her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, and she read extensively. She was a long-time member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City, an active member of the Altar Society, and she helped initiate the annual Christmas Eve Banquet that is hosted for the homeless, the shut-ins, and others alone during this special season. She was an active member of the District 24 Democratic party. Grateful for having shared in her life are Robert, her husband of nearly 65 years; her children, Roberta Luke Lorenz, Erie, CO, Jane Terry Mammel, Oconomowoc, WI, John Jane, Chandler, AZ, Michael Kathy, Bismarck, Mary Anne Stan Marthaller, Bismarck, and Patrick, Diane, Scottsdale, AZ; fourteen grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Patricia Osborne, Littleton, CO; and one sister Kathleen Harley Fox, Ogallala, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents.
