Marjorie Elizabeth Smith

Marjorie Elizabeth Smith, 94, Bismarck, passed away April 5, 2011, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, April 11, at Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Marjorie was born on March 25, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Winnifred Jones Doll. She grew up with four brothers, Bobby, John, Tom and Wilbur. She attended schools in Bismarck and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1934. Marjorie married Roy Donald Smith on February 25, 1936, in Bismarck. They lived in Idaho for a time while Roy was stationed there with the Navy, then they returned to Bismarck, where they spent their remaining years. Marjorie worked many years for Conrad Publishing Company and the North Dakota State Capital. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and visiting her family. Marjorie had a great love for music especially the piano; in her younger years she excelled in tap dancing, and gave instructions in tap dance; she enjoyed the sport of basketball and played it into her adult years. Marjorie also had a great talent for painting; she did many paintings and shared many of them with family and friends. In the later years of her life, Marjorie lived at "The Terrace", where she was very happy. She enjoyed playing bingo in the Terrace's activity center, and joking with the staff and her friends. Marjorie will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Shirley Freas, Grants, NM; her three sons, Patrick J. Marcie Smith, Mandan, ND, Bernard D. Joanne Smith, Mesa, AZ, and Michael T. Jean Smith, Williston, ND; her daughter-in-law, Mary Smith, Graford, TX; sister-in-law, Alice Doll, MN; and 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; two sons, Bruce and Donald; her parents; three brothers, Bobby, John and Tom; her grandson, Kevin Smith; and two granddaughters, Kathleen Smith and Virginia "Googie" Sires. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Church of St. Anne Parish, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck, ND, 58501.
