Marlyn L Janke

Marlyn L. Janke, 82, Steele, surrounded by his family in a Bismarck Hospital, went to meet his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2013. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 18, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tappen, with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday, March 17, at the Eastgate-Steele Memorial Chapel, in Steele, ND, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Marlyn was born May 24, 1930, to Martin and Bertha Schock Janke in Steele, ND, where Marlyn made his lifetime home. He attended country school in Baker Township. The love of farming with his father was started at a young age and continued until he retired from the family farm south of Steele in 2003 and moved into town. On February 3, 1952, he married Margaret Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele, ND. Together they raised four children, Muriel DeVore, Bismarck, Marty Sandi Janke, Steele, Marla Allan Hagen, Grand Forks, and Mary Bob Rohrich, Steele. On December 31, 1981, he married Kathleen "Kay" Alpert-Vogel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND, and helped raise her three children, Kim LaFramboise, deceased, Darin Vogel Kari Enzminger, Driscoll, and Heidi Paul Strande, Thompson, ND. Marlyn was a hard-working man who loved the land and took great pleasure in farming. At a very young age, he learned to play accordion, and played it with perfection for many school house parties and wedding dances. His love of music continued throughout his life, and he enthusiastically played for others just to bring smiles to their faces. He was very active in many community events: school board, church council, FHA board, Braddock Threshing Association, and a life-member of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club. His passion for John Deere tractors lead him to restore old two-cylinders in which he completed with pride. He loved tractor talk, driving them in parades and going to tractor pulls throughout the area. Marlyn is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Kay, Steele; his children, Muriel, Marty, Marla, Mary, Darin and Heidi; his sister, Irene Ralph Ringdahl-Sleeper; 13 grandchildren, Amanda Rohrich Bruce Dintelman, Aaron Melissa Rohrich, Tyler Crystal DeVore, Audra Cory Grunhovd, Jason DeVore, Erik Hagen, Ciara Janke, Autumn Janke, Kelli Chris Gabel, Megan LaFramboise, Tyler LaFramboise, Wade Strande, and Ryan Strande; 10 great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Broderic, Peyton, Paige and Brynn Rohrich, Ella Gabel, Jazzlyn and Braxton Dintelman, Mason DeVore, and Astrid Grunhovd. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kim LaFramboise; his parents; sister, DoLores Hansen; three brothers-in-law, Vernon Hansen, Jim Carew, and Ken Ringdahl; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Alpert.
