Marlys Steckler

Marlys D. Steckler, 43, Bismarck, has gone in peace to rest with the Lord on July 14, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, after a battle with leukemia cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck with Rev. Paul Eberle officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bismarck. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 - 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary followed by a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Marlys was born on December 28, 1963, in Bismarck, ND, to Don and Darlene Shimek Kramer. She was raised on a farm near New Salem, ND. Marlys attended New Salem High School where she participated in basketball, track, and cheerleading. After graduating with honors, Marlys attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton where she earned a degree in computer programming. She advanced her career working for several large information technology companies including Blue Cross Blue Shield, State of North Dakota, Basin Electric Power, NISC, City of Bismarck, and MDU. Marlys married Myron Steckler on August 26, 1988, in Bismarck. After living for a short time in Fargo, Marlys and Myron moved to Bismarck where they eventually bought land and built their home where Marlys could enjoy her love of the outdoors, horses, and dogs. She will dearly be missed by her husband, Myron; their children, Tyler Matthew 15 and Kristina Marie 13; her parents, Don and Darlene Kramer; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Hildegarde Steckler; her sister, Joanne Schafer and her special friend, Steve Butler; her brothers, Kevin and Alan Kramer; her grandmother, Hattie Kramer; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Gloria Steckler, Joyce and James Saunders, Charlotte and Mark Schmidt, Lenora and Lanny Kenner; and her special nieces and nephews, Kayde Schafer, Alycia Kramer, Emily and Aaron Steckler, Morriah Saunders, Travis and Preston Schmidt, and Sheena, Ethan, and Jordan Kenner. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Kramer and Frank and Rose Shimek and her nephew, Joshua Saunders. A special thanks to all of you that helped Marlys and our family through her battle with leukemia. Also, a special thanks to the nurses angels and doctors at St. Alexius and Mid Dakota Clinic that were there helping Marlys through to her final moments.
