Mary Ellen Larson

Mary Ellen Larson, 83, Bismarck, died December 27, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 - 4:30 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 3:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. The angels descended with Mary on Christmas Day, December 25, 1929, in Solen, ND, to George and Mary Louise Rambow. Mary graduated from Solen High School. She then attended and graduated from St. Alexius Nursing School in Bismarck in 1952 and embarked on a lifetime career as a registered nurse. Mary worked in many capacities as an RN over the years including St. Alexius Hospital, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, State of North Dakota Health Department, Hill Top Comfort Home in Killdeer, ND, and St. Vincent's Care Center. Mary took much pride in her career as a RN and looked forward to every day working and helping people. She continued to work up to the age of 80. She met many people during her work that she continued as lifetime friendships. Mary married Ervin Larson on March 27, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Bismarck. They began their marriage farming on the Larson homestead north of Bismarck. Mary loved the farm and everything about the lifestyle. Mary and Ervin's first son, Lester, was born in 1955. In 1957 they moved to Bismarck and their second son, Thomas, was born. Mary's first devotion was to her family and friends. She was a very giving person and provided much support. She was very proud of her two granddaughters, Rachel and Caitlin, from her son Lester and his wife, Anne. She loved to putter around her house and watch the wildlife that gathered in her backyard. Mary had a passion for traveling and had traveled all over the United States, including Alaska. She had also traveled overseas to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She had just completed a trip this fall to visit her niece, Mary Jo Gwyther, in Switzerland. She considered that her best trip ever. Mary is survived by her sons, Thomas of Sacramento, CA, and Lester and his wife, Anne, of Bismarck, and her granddaughters, Rachel and Caitlin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; her parents, George and Mary Louise; her brothers, William, Charles, and James Rambow; and her sisters, Helen Bauer and Margaret "Peggy" Gwyther.
