Mary Niemann

Mary Evelyn Niemann Prock 87, Bismarck, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend passed away June 2, 2008 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, surrounded by her loved ones. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck with Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mary was born August 2, 1920 to Elmer Reese and Ida Fern Prock in Greensburg, Kansas. Mary's family moved to Attica, KS, when Mary was six years old. Mary met Dale Niemann in nearby Anthony, KS and married in 1942. Mary was a schoolteacher in Kansas and during WWII, she worked as a "Rosy the Riveter" at the Boeing plant in Wichita, KS, and was on the team that produced the first B-52 at that location. In 1953, Mary, Dale and their son, Anthony relocated to Mandan, ND. Mary worked in accounting at the Gambles store in Mandan, at the Tempo department store in Bismarck, and volunteered at the St. Alexius Medical Center Gift Shop for many years. A long-time Elks Club Elkettes, American Legion, Eagles and Kiwanis member, Mary was also a past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mary and her husband, Dale spent many enjoyable hours fishing and camping and she was particularly proud of her "Whopper Badge" for a 28lb Northern Pike she caught. Mary loved to knit, crochet, cook wonderfully and play bingo and Bridge. Over the years, she had many opportunities to travel with her late husband, and more recently with her special friend, Edward Ottenbacher. Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Niemann of Bismarck, ND; granddaughter, Cheryl Davis and her husband, Garret and their children, Justin and Caitlin of Chaska, MN; grandson, William Niemann and his wife, Tawnie and their daughter, Kelsey of Bismarck, ND; granddaughter, Wendy Tschida and her husband, George and their daughter, Alyssa of Mandan, ND; Mary's special friend and love, Edward Ottenbacher of Bismarck, ND; her brother, Lloyd Prock of Orange City, FL and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Anthony; husband, Dale; sister, Edna Yocum; brothers, Reese and Buddy Prock and her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be sent to the Radiology Technologist Scholarship in Anthony Niemann's name: St. Alexius Medical Center, 900 E Broadway, Bismarck, ND, 58501.
