Mary Sundby

Mary Braun Sundby, 86, died November 6, 2010 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Services will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parkway Funeral Home in Bismarck at 2330 Tyler Parkway. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services. Rev. Betty J. Stedman of Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake will officiate. Interment will be at approximately 2:45 p.m. that afternoon at the Turtle Lake Cemetery. The family requests no fragrances at the services: perfumes, colognes, etc. Mary was born November 13, 1923 to John and Johanna Schock Braun in rural Mercer. She attended Mercer schools and graduated from Mercer High School in 1942. Mary worked as a bookkeeper and store clerk for many years in Chicago, Bismarck and Turtle Lake, most recently as a bookkeeper for Borth's Department Store. She was married to Orville Sundby on November 25, 1948 in Turtle Lake, where they then made their home until 1991 when they moved to Bismarck to be closer to their daughter, Mary Beth. Throughout her life Mary enjoyed gardening and canning, the family cabin at Brush Lake, Twins baseball, and most of all, time with the Braun and Sundby families. She especially enjoyed her grandsons. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother and grandmother, who devoted her retirement years to caring for her daughter and home and yard in Bismarck. Mary was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of almost 62 years, Orville of Bismarck; son Douglas of Centennial, CO; son David of Fort Collins, CO, son Dwight of Bismarck; daughter-in-law Martha of Denver, CO; grandson Jonathan Crystal Sundby and children, Madison and Jalen of Plano, TX; grandson James Sundby of Centennial, CO, brother Walt Lucille Braun of Bismarck; sisters-in-law Carol Sundby of Turtle Lake and Marian Braun of Bismarck, brother-in-law Edward Sundby of Fargo, ND; and many cousins, nieces and nephews around the country. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Beth Sundby, in October 2010; five sisters: Viola Wagner, Esther Johnson, Ida Seibold, Louise Eggleston and Bertha Moser; and four brothers: Martin Braun, John Braun, August Braun, and Reuben Bentz.
