Mary Wangler

Mary Wangler, 92, Bismarck, died July 5, 2007 at St. Vincent's Care Center. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday at St. Anne's Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Thomas Richter officiating and Abbot Brian Wangler concelebrating Mary's son. After the funeral Mass there will be a lunch at St. Anne's. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm at St. Boniface Church, rural Napoleon. Visitation will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm at St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck, and from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm Sunday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A rosary and vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Mary Wangler was born to Marcus and Mary Bernhardt Wald on February 2, 1915, in the St. Anthony area south of Napoleon, ND. There she grew up and learned all the tasks of farm life. On October 21, 1935, she married Valentine Wangler at St. Anthony's Church, rural Napoleon. They moved to a farm southwest of Napoleon in the St. Boniface area. Here they had eleven children; nine boys and two girls. Mary was an active member of St. Boniface Church and in its organization for women, the Christian Mothers. She also helped out as needed. In the fall of 1970, Valentine and Mary moved to Bismarck. Mary was involved with the St. Anne's Guild - St. Blaise Circle and with the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of St. Vincent's Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning and planning all family holidays. No one ever left Mary's house hungry. She also enjoyed making quilts and has given numerous quilts to family members over the years. Her husband died on November 6, 1992. In 1998, she sold her home and moved to Marillac Manor, Bismarck. In 2002 she moved into St. Vincent's Care Center where she was active and participated in all the activities of the Center. Mary is survived by her eleven children: Tony Lucy Wangler, Wishek, ND; Mark Luella Wangler, Napoleon, ND; Elsie Norbert Weninger, Edina, MN; Frank Florence Wangler, rural Kintyre, ND; Abbot Brian Wangler, OSB, Assumption Abbey, Richardton, ND; Alois Erica Wangler, Bismarck; Ann Marie AllynWald, Bismarck; Julius Patricia Wangler, Grafton, ND; Valentine JoAnn Wangler, Bismarck; Jim Diane Wangler, Linton, ND; and Steve Sherry Wangler, Bismarck. She is also survived by five sisters: Rose Weigel, Mandan; Sister Imelda Wald, Hankinson, ND; Sister Gerard Wald, Little Falls, MN; Zita Kuss, Bismarck; Sister Jovita Wald, Randall, MN; and by three sisters-in-law, Helena, Pauline, and Barbara Wald, all of Linton, ND. She also is survived by a sister-in-law by marriage, Elizabeth Wangler. In addition she has 35 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Stanley, James, and Mark Wald; and three sisters, Elizabeth Braun, Sister Agatha Wald, and Christine Wangler.
