Mercedes E Alm

Mercedes E. Alm, 84, Bismarck, died June 23, 2012, at Medcenter St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 29, at the Regan Assembly of God Church in Regan, ND, with Rev. Wesley Glennen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, June 28, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mercedes was born November 6, 1927, at the Steve Little farm east of Wilton, the daughter of the late Porter and Alice Johnson Nelson of Regan. She attended grade school in Cromwell Township. When she was 12 years old, she moved with her parents to a farm south of Regan. She finished her grade school education at a country school in Ghylin Township and later attended high school in Regan, graduating in 1946. Mercedes married Iven Alm on October 20, 1946, at the Alm farm. Willis, Iven's brother, and his wife Deloris, Mercedes's sister, lived on that farm also; Iven and Mercedes were married in their home on the family farm. Mercedes taught school in the Rockhill Township for two years. While Mercedes and Iven did not have any children of their own, they were always involved in all of their nieces and nephews lives, whom they loved dearly. The nieces and nephews will always cherish their memories of all the fun they had at the Alm home. Mercedes had a love for collecting dolls and shared her joy of the collection with many people. She was known for her kuchen and doughnut making parties and also the many, many, whist and hand and foot games played around her kitchen table. Iven died in 1998 at the Alm farm where they lived a long and happy life for over 50 years. Mercedes continued to live on the farm until the summer of 2008, when she moved to Bismarck. Mercedes and Iven were very active in the Regan church for many years and Mercedes remained active for ten years after Iven's death. Mercedes is survived by sisters, Deloris Alm, Bismarck, Marlys Davis, Ankeny, IA, Colleen Jerry Murrey, Regan; brother-in-law, Bill Michelsen, Wing; sister-in-law, Hilda Alm; and 25 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iven; her parents; her brother, DuWayne; sisters, June Michelsen and Norma Felton; and one nephew, Mike Felton. Memorials may be given to Medcenter One St. Vincent's Care Center, 1021 N 26th St, Bismarck, ND, 58501.
