Milo Pocta

Milo Pocta, 81, Bismarck, formerly of Braddock, died peacefully with his family at his side, Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Milo was born May 29, 1927, on a farm near Ross, ND, the son of James and Jennie Doubek Pocta. He attended country school near Ross and in 1938 moved with his family to Braddock, ND, where he attended school and graduated from Braddock High School in 1946. On October 24, 1954, he married Alice Preszler and they made their home, which Milo, his two brothers and father built, on the Pocta farm south of Braddock. They were blessed with two daughters. Milo farmed with his brothers until 2004, when they retired and moved to Bismarck. Milo was an active member of the Braddock United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Bismarck. He was a member of the Braddock Lions Club. Milo served on the board of the South Central Grain Coop for nine years and served as a committee member of the ASC office in Linton, ND. Milo loved all aspects of life on the farm and could always be found “tinkering” in his shop. He enjoyed daily trips into Braddock which usually included stops to visit with friends. He enjoyed reading, history, drives in the countryside and visiting with family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Milo will be remembered for his hard work ethic, patience and determination, even through his battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Tim Karsky, Bismarck, ND, and Rita and Myron Jahner, Bismarck, ND; and three grandchildren, Tara and Christopher Karsky and Casey Jahner. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Adolph, Ben, and Stanley Pocta and four sisters, Barbara Pirics, Lydia Maly, Alice Dill, and Rose Wanous. We love you!
