Norman Barth

Norman John Barth, 69, of Bismarck, died peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2008 at MedCenter One Hospital surrounded by his family, after a courageous five year struggle with various health problems. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with the Rev. Chad Gion officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service where a vigil/rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm. Norman was born in Mandan, ND, May 30, 1939, the son of Leo and Rose Barnhardt Barth. He was raised on the family farm and attended a rural Oliver County school through the eighth grade. He married Carol Frohlich on October 11, 1965. To this union three children were born, Michael, Shannon, and Renae. Norman farmed the family farmstead until 1974. He then moved to Bismarck and worked for Melroe in the welding department until retirement. Norm also worked odd jobs and babysat his grandkids. Norman enjoyed collecting and polishing rocks, fishing, farming, cattle, going to rummage sales, cooking, wildlife, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Through all of his health adversities, he kept his quite, patient nature. He will be dearly missed by his grandkids as he spent countless hours spoiling them. He would make up stories to entertain the kids for hours. Grateful for having shared in his life are his children: Michael Barth, Bismarck, ND; Shannon Barth Marlin Vatne, Rhame, ND and Renae Barth of Bismarck, ND; his grandchildren: Sadie, Kole, and Trysten Barth, AshLynn and Jacob Rebel; and his “adopted” grandchildren: Jacey Roe and Connie Thurn. Norman also leaves one sister Irene Tom Kay of Wisconsin, and four brothers: Leonard Barth, Minnesota; David Ellen Barth, Bismarck, ND; Donald Elsie Barth, California; and Thomas Geri Barth, Minnesota. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Rose Barth.
