Norman Stuhlmiller

Norman E. Stuhlmiller of Bismarck, passed away suddenly on August 21, 2004, at the age of 77 after a short illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 10:30 AM at Century Baptist Church in Bismarck. Burial will be at the ND Veteran's Cemetery south of Mandan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 AM - 9 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Norman was born on April 4, 1927, to Emmanuel and Anna Weisz Stuhlmiller. He was married to Norma Rae Whipple on December 28, 1949. During WWII, Norman served in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Dickinson State Teacher's College in 1949. After college, he taught music and English for 38 years in Killdeer, Wishek, Garrison and Devils Lake, North Dakota. During his retirement, Norman served on numerous boards and did volunteer work for which he received many awards. At the time of his death, he was serving as President of ND Retired Teachers, was a trustee on the Teacher's Fund for Retirement Board, served on the ND Counsel of Aging Board and served on the Bismarck Evangelical Church Board. Norman's volunteer work included doing insurance counseling for seniors for the ND Insurance Department, teaching the 55-Alive Safe Driving Class for AARP, teaching Hunter Safety for the ND Game and Fish Department and teaching adult Sunday School for the Bismarck Evangelical Church. He was a master woodworker who especially loved building and repairing clocks to the delight of his family. His garden was a source of joy, grateful that God provided such abundance of produce for him to share. He delighted in his grandchildren, and took great pleasure in spending time taking them to the zoo, fishing and going to see baby chicks in the springtime. Kara and Mari's concerts were a source of pride and happiness for him. Norman is survived by Norma, his wife of 54 years; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Dan Eyring of Watertown, MA, and Joyce and Mark Biel of Bismarck; his son, Malcolm Stuhlmiller of Minneapolis, MN; two granddaughters, Kara and Mari Biel of Bismarck; his sister, Evelyn Borher of Bismarck; and his brother, Gary Stuhlmiller of Chandler, AZ. His parents preceded him in death. Dear Husband, Daddy and Grandpa, we miss you.
