Ora Munz

Ora Lewis "Louie" Munz, 80, Mandan, died March 2, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #1326. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ora Lewis Munz was born on February 26, 1927, in Watkins, Pennsylvania, the son of Jack and Beulah Witherite Munz. He was the third of five children. Ora served in the US Navy on the USS Boyd DD-544 and the USS Princeton LPH-5. He also served in the US Army from 1944 to 1961. He was married to Irene Fredrickson Munz on October 23, 1969. His employment varied from Porter Brothers, bartending, State Industrial School now YCC, Border Steel, Voight Recycling, Mel Lang Construction, and Mike Wetch Well Drilling. He continued to be active with some of his employers even after retirement just so he could stay active and busy. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed being outdoors either fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, or being in the yard working on little trinkets he would find. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and entertaining them as well. His passions are his grandkids, his wife, his daughters, his sons-in-law, and his puppies. Ora is survived by his wife of 37 years, Irene; his four daughters, Joann Ron Butz, Lorrie Barry Backman, Jackie Scott Mittleider, and Rhonda Shane Gross; his two sisters, Beulah Al Kramer and Julia Steve Zwaleski; and his ten grandchildren, Alisha, Amanda, Kristiana, Lacey, Vanessa, Caleb, Mirranda, Skyler, TJ, and Tia. His grandbabies all called him "Papa" and he had special names for them that they will always remember. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beulah Witherite Munz; his brothers, Warren and Gale; three sons, two at birth, Robert and Arthur, and John; two grandchildren, AJ and Miranda; and his first wife, Sophie Evoniuk.
