Pauline Gietzen

Pauline Gietzen, 91, Bismarck, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, September 3, 2010, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A vigil/rosary will begin at 7:00 pm Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Pauline was born on May 18, 1919, the first of eight children, on her Grandparents farm south of Glen Ullin, ND, the daughter of Paul and Margaret Wetzstein Kobilansky. She grew up and attended school in Glen Ullin. Pauline lived in Iowa for a short period of time. She married Harold Gietzen on June 17, 1946, in Buhl, ID. Pauline and Harold moved to Bismarck where they lived and raised their family. Pauline loved to cook, always saying how she had to learn at an early age, and she was excellent at it. She enjoyed gardening, and because of her green thumb, donated many houseplants to the St. Mary’s Carnival. Pauline was a member of St. Mary’s for over 50 years. She was a very loving and spiritual mother and grandmother, always willing to care for and love her grandchildren and always took time to color with them. Pauline is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold; her children, Helen Larry Heidt, Bismarck,Ted Peg Gietzen, Fargo, Linda Ron Riskedahl, Tuttle, Tom Gietzen, Huron, SD, Kathy Jim Kohler, Mandan, JoAnn Barry Brilz, Bismarck, Donna Mike Ulmen, Bismarck, and Gerard Gietzen, Bismarck, her grandchildren, Jeff, Norm, Susan, Theresa, Steph, Jen, Kelly, Nikki, Mary, Ronda, Leesa, Jill, Sally, Ben, Kris, Ashlee, Beth, Nicholas, Benjamin, Lacey Jo and Josh and 19 and counting great-grandchildren; her brothers, Mike Alice and Henry Bonnie Kobilansky of Glen Ullin; and her sister, Mary Paul Messer, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Paul; her sisters, Gertrude and Theresa; an infant brother; and her grandson, Andrew. The family would like to thank the Pace Program employees for their help, love, and support in caring for our dear wife, mother, and grandmother, especially her personal caregiver, Amber, and to Kim and Diane for always bringing Holy Eucharist.
