Philippina Nagel

Philippina Nagel, 94, died on July 29, 2011, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Services will be held on Monday, August 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Linton with Rev. David Richter officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Linton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service where a vigil/rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Philippina Nagel, the daughter of John and Kathrina Wald Schumacher, was born April 3, 1917, on a farm west of Linton, ND. She married Harry Nagel on September 30, 1940, at St. Bernard's Church in rural Linton. They farmed twenty miles southwest of Linton. Philippina had many hobbies while living on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, baking, raising chickens and turkeys, making quilts, playing cards, bingo, and fishing. In 1983, they retired and moved to Linton. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of St. Anthony's parish in Linton. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Her husband of fifty-two years, Harry, died on December 11, 1992, and she continued to live in Linton. In July of 1998, she moved to an assisted living center, The Terrace, in Bismarck, ND. On July 15, 2003, Philippina became a resident of Missouri Slope Care Center, where she lived until her death. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Alvin Kathy Nagel, Dorothy Al Feist, Clara Philip Kambeitz, and Alex Josie Nagel; fourteen grandchildren, Tom Nagel, Louise Ryberg, Marie Hirvela, Ryan Nagel, Nicolette Gietzen, Claudia Wehri, Lisa Wanner, Jonathan Feist, Melanie Jacobson, Ann Cassetta, Jim Kambeitz, Erik Nagel, Patrick Nagel, and Joan Nagel; and 34 great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, surviving members are her sisters-in-law, Jean Schumacher, Ann Nagel, Herrietta Nagel, and Katherine Nagel; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Nagel and his wife, Palma. Preceding Philippina in death were her parents; her husband in 1992; an infant great-grandson, Paul Wanner; her seven brothers, infant John, John, Frank, Sebastian, Martin, Balzer, and Joe Schumacher; and seven sisters, Catherine Materi, Maggie Deisz, Rosalie Mattern, Elizabeth Mattern, Mary Nagel, Frances Nagel, and Helen Vetter. Her family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Missouri Slope Care Center and The Terrace for their compassion and loving care for their mother during her final years. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the activities department for Alzheimer's patients at Missouri Slope Care Center.
