R. Milton Lussenden

R. Milton Lussenden, 88, Bismarck, died November 10, 2010, surrounded by his family, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Sara Akre, Rev. Michael Toomey, and Rev. Robert Lynne officiating. Burial will be at 9:00 am Tuesday, November 16, at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm Sunday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Milton was born August 2, 1922, at Ada, MN, the son of George and Minnie Hadler Lussenden. His family moved to a farm near Rock Lake, ND, and he graduated from high school in Egeland, ND, in 1940. He attended NDSU from 1940 -1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on June 4, 1942. Milton was trained as a bombardier-navigator and served in the 12th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. Following his discharge on November 22, 1945, he returned to NDSU and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Economics in December 1946. He married Dorothy Sill in Beach, ND, on March 24, 1947. His career in Extension Service and Farmers Home Administration took them to various cities in North Dakota and he retired from FmHA in Bismarck in 1979. He belonged to American Legion, the Elks Lodge, Masons and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he was financial secretary for many years. Milton is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Bismarck; one daughter and two sons, Kathy Dick Toomey, Bagley, MN, Randy Peggy, Alexandria, MN, and Bob Nancy, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Pastor Michael Maria Toomey, Fargo, ND, Stephanie Toomey, Rochester, MN, Dr. Ryan Lussenden, Santa Barbara, CA, Katie Kyle Fisher, St. Paul, MN, Kelly Matt Schmidgall, Morris, MN, Mark Alissa Lussenden, Alexandria, MN, Jessica Scott Harms, Jamestown, ND, Carrie Cole Bentley, Laramie, WY, Jon Lussenden, Beulah, ND, and Christina Paul Reynolds, Jamestown, ND; great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Elizabeth Toomey, Carson Schmidgall, Edison, August and Clara Harms, Samuel Bentley, Cohen Randell Lussenden, and Jason and Serenity Reynolds. He is also survived by one brother, Lowell and his wife, Norine, Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George; and one great-grandchild, Hope Toomey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
