Richard "Dick" Peterson

Richard "Dick" Peterson passed away February 7, 2015, at CHI St. Alexius Health with his family gathered around him. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N. 6th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Lunch will follow at the church. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, ND, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck. Dick was born February 20, 1945, at Garrison, ND, to Harold and Elizabeth Fix Peterson. He was raised and attended school in Garrison and graduated with the class of 1964 from Garrison High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy in January 1964 and proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served in Charleston, SC, San Diego, CA, Japan, and the Philippines. On July 27, 1965, Richard married LaBette "Bette" Brown and from this union three children were born, Cassie, Chad and Clinton. Richard and Bette have made their home in Bismarck since 1968, where Richard worked as a diesel technician and service manager for Trucks of Bismarck and Nelson International for many years. Dick was a lifelong Vikings fan. He loved watching football games and auto racing. He spent many hours hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and spent many hours caring for them over the years. Dick is survived by his wife, Bette of Bismarck; one daughter, Cassie Les Geithman of Bismarck; and two sons, Chad Karissa Peterson of Mandan and Clinton Samantha Peterson of Washburn. He is also survived by nine of the most wonderful grandchildren ever born, Jesse, Jordan, Hunter, and Morgan all of Bismarck; Keisha, Keenan, Nicole, and Carissa all of Washburn; and Brielle of Mandan. His children and grandchildren were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Peterson of Garrison; three brothers, Gordon Peterson of Bluff City, TN, James Sheila Peterson of Blountville, TN, and Floyd Linda Kuhn of Bozeman, MT; two sisters, Bonnie Harry Hamman of Wahpeton and Linda Wade Kolden of Garrison; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ed Amanda Brown and Karen Werner; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Sid Peterson; an infant sister, Christine; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Florence Brown: one sister-in-law, Sally Peterson; and one brother-in-law, Clayton Werner.
