Richard Larson

Richard W. Dick Larson, age 94, passed away on October 9, 2013, at the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin. Prior to moving to the Marian Manor Healthcare Center, he resided at the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky. The memorial service will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM, on October 14, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, with Pastor Richard Raum officiating. A gathering will be held at 10:00 AM for family and friends at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Richard was born on November 2, 1918 south of Wilton, to William and Florence Larson. He was educated in a country school near the family farm. He, along and his siblings, worked for neighboring farmers and was then employed at Ecklund Brothers coal mine near Wilton. He would reminisce that it was back in the day when he loaded coal into underground carts pulled by horses. Richard married Marjorie J. Shearer on September 25, 1941. He and Marjorie farmed in the Wilton area until 1955 when they moved to Bismarck. Richard then worked for the Bismarck Public School System until his retirement in 1983. In 1998, he moved back to Wilton until February 2009 when he moved to McClusky due to health care needs. Richard's passions were farming, hunting and fishing, gardening, and playing cards with his dear friends, Beulah Keck, Lottie Shearer, and Max and Elaine Flinn of Wilton, and farming "buddies" Rodney and Don Flinn. Richard is survived by two sons, Richard and wife Vicki of Dillsburg, PA; Larry and wife Bev of Bismarck; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Holly husband Phil and daughter Daisy, Jason wife Deanna and sons Van and Henry, Sarah husband Stephen and son Alder, Chris wife Karin and son Nick and daughter Anna, Heather daughter Lucy, and Alyssa daughter Michelina; and also a special friend, Violet Kirschman, of McClusky. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie 1982; his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Harold; and four sisters, Ruth, Erma, Edna, and Helen. The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at both the Sheridan Memorial Home and Marian Manor Healthcare Center.
