Richard Nagel

Richard Nagel, 84, Bismarck, passed away April 1, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, N.D. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Ray Baker officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at McCabe United Methodist Church. Richard was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Bismarck, ND, to Charles and Meta Redmann Nagel. His childhood was spent on the dairy farm north of Bismarck. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1946. In 1950, he married Helen Gordon of Millarton, N.D. They were blessed with five children: Jerry, Marc, Pam, David, and Penny. Richard's career was spent as a salesman with Yegen Dairy, Gurley's, Groves Kelco, American Beauty, and Pillsbury. He covered the Midwest territory and throughout his career he acquired many lifelong grocer friends. Richard enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his wife, Helen. He loved watching Duke basketball and also the Minneapolis sports teams, especially the Minnesota Twins. When he wasn't watching sports, he was at the kitchen table playing cards. When his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren visited, you would find him at the Dakota Zoo, which he was a proud member. He was also a longtime member of the Elks and for many years was active with the Grocer's Association. Richard is survived by his wife, Helen, Bismarck; three sons, Jerry Brenda Menier Nagel, Lake Park, MN; Marc Linda Well Nagel, Plymouth, MN; David Susan Nagel, Fargo, ND; and two daughters, Pam Mark Bourdon, Fargo, ND; Penny Nagel, Fargo, ND; 9 grandchildren; Dustin, Terra, Lindsey, Ashley, Christopher, Amanda, Natalie, Anna and Meta, and 5 great-grandchildren; Zoe, Owen, Brooke, Summer, and Jackson; one brother, Robert Nagel Myra, Montpelier, ND; one brother-in-law, Maynard Bjork, Clive, IA; and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Meta; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maurice and Lenore Gordon, siblings, Kenneth, Francis, and Edna, and one granddaughter, Whitney. Gifts or memorials may be made to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch or McCabe United Methodist Church.
