Robert Morgan

Robert Bob L. Morgan, 86, Bismarck, passed away from our world on November 17th, 2014 at the Sanford Care Center off Sunset in Mandan, ND. Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, November 22, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Visitation will be held 6:00pm-8:00pm Friday, November 21, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Bob was known to be a compassionate man who lived a full life serving as a fine steward of the land, people, plants, birds and animals around him. Bob was born on December 22, 1927, in Moberly, Missouri. He was the son of James E. and Deva Delia Morgan. He and his big brother Raymond "Rock" Morgan were raised in Ames and Marshalltown, Iowa. At 17, he joined an Army program and was active duty in the Philippines at age 18. He married the "love of his life" on September 4, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they raised two daughters, Sandy and Deb, and one son, Jim. In 1951, he received his BS degree in forestry from Iowa State with a minor in wildlife, and promptly started working for the ND Game & Fish Dept. as Habitat Biologist in Minot, ND. In 1957, he took his family to Bismarck to take the Habitat Project Leader position. He became Chief of the Lands & Development position in 1973. He retired on the opening day of goose season in 1989. After retirement, he had a Wildlife Management area dedicated in his name near Sykeston, ND. He reported once that most of his time since retirement was spent growing weeds and flowers. Bob was passionate about caring for this world of ours. He served the city of Bismarck for 33 years on the forestry advisory board and was honored on a couple Arbor Days with tree plantings. He served as President of the Bismarck/Mandan garden club and faithfully took care of several flower beds around Bismarck. He received an award as "Conservationist of the Year" for the state of ND. He was a member of McCabe for 57 years, serving on multiple church boards and singing in the Chancel Choir. He loved his time with the children of the church, leading "Sing & Share", teaching confirmation classes, and volunteering with different youth groups for years. He was a long time member of Golden Kiwanis. With his love of nature he enjoyed a lifetime of adventures, hunting, fishing, gardening, bird watching, and sharing his knowledge as a caretaker of the land with family & friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him. His eyes lit up every time he was around them or spoke of them. Bob's spirit will live on through his wife of 65 years, Marlyne; his children, Sandy Brewster, Deb Dave Arthan, and Jim Jane Morgan; and grandchildren, Allison Brewster Cudney, John Sara Brewster, Kristin Ryan Van Eck, Sarah Cameron Kackman Bentz, Mariah Bob Baier, David Sophie Morgan, and Ben Kayla Shea Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Michael Cudney, Breanne Cudney, Alexsandra Cudney, Kady Brewster, Riley Van Eck, Norah Van Eck, Trevin Baier, Aspen Baier, Sully Morgan, and Savannah Morgan, with "Baby Boy" Kackman arriving this spring. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and son-in-law Randy Brewster.
