Roger Dahl

Roger S. Dahl, 68, Lincoln, ND, died October 14, 2009, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1615 N. 18th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Roecker officiating. Burial will be held in Hazelton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a Devotional service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Roger was born August 15, 1941, in Glendive, MT, the son of Arne and Anetha Ranschler Dahl. He graduated from Hazelton High School in 1960. Roger married Laurel Baker in 1966. He ranched and trucked with his brother until the early 90s, when he went into business on his own and later drove for his son, Kelly. Roger was a man of honor and took pride in his family, his home, and his work. If there was a job to do, he didn’t rest until it was done and done to his satisfaction. Over the years and through his trucking business he met many people and considered everyone a friend. He cherished his children and grandchildren and rarely passed up a chance to tease them or give them a helping hand. Roger enjoyed his coffee, camping, traveling, and hunting with his grandsons. He realized he was a flatland hunter after hunting the Badlands. Anyone who knew Roger knew how he felt about cold weather! Roger had an outgoing personality, and was thoughtful, kind, and generous. Whenever you wanted to see his mischievous smile, you just looked for him behind the wheel or interacting with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurel; his son, Kelly Michelle Dahl, and his grandchildren, Tara, Madison, and James of Hazelton, ND; his daughters, Kristy Dahl, Bismarck, ND, and Lynelle Cory Smith, and his grandsons, Jayden and Blayne of Belfield, ND; his brother, Matt Sandy, Spearfish, SD; his sister-in-law, Kay Dahl, Bismarck, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert; his parents; and his grandparents.
