Roland O Wagner

Roland O. Wagner, 88, Bismarck, died December 19, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr., officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 24, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Friday, December 21, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Roland was born May 15, 1924, in Golden Valley, ND, the son of Alex and Kate Miller Wagner. He attended schools in Halliday and Golden Valley where he graduated from high school. Roland served in WWII and was stationed in Japan following the war. Roland married Lorene Isaak on November 9, 1946, in Bismarck. He began working for Wachter Transfer as a clerk. He then worked in the printing business with the Bismarck Tribune and Commercial Printing. His retirement in 1989 lasted one day before he began working at the Printers and began a longstanding friendship. He ultimately did retire in 2009 and moved to Edgewood Vista-Village. Roland was active in the Jaycees and also worked as chairman of the Miss North Dakota Pageant. He was very involved in the Germans from Russia, active in softball and was a Sunday School superintendent at church. Roland was a member of VFW, American Legion and the Amvets. Roland also received the North Dakota National Primetime Award for being an outstanding older worker sponsored by the Green Thumb Organization. Roland is survived by his wife, Lorene, Bismarck; his daughter, Marlene Don Mahler, Fairfax, VA; his son, Dennis Mary Wagner, Oxnard, CA; his grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Kristin Moon, Kristine Christopher Rigano, and Clay Mahler; his great-grandchildren, Kade Johnson, Dylan Blankendaal, Talyn Johnson, China Moon, and Taysha Zeeb; his brother, Vernon E. Wagner, Bismarck; his nieces and nephews; and his card playing buddies at Edgewood Vista-Village. He was preceded in death by his two brothers; and his parents.
