Rose Jahner

Rose Jahner, 78, Bismarck, died May 5, 2008, due to cancer at St. Vincent's care center. Services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday at Church of St. Anne with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Interment will be held at North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 11 am until 1 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm Wednesday at St. Vincent's care center and from 3:30 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held at 6:45 pm and a vigil service at 7:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service with Rev. Tom Richter officiating. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Rose Marie Jahner was born October 18, 1929, at Turtle Lake, ND, to Gerald T. and Alice H. Smith Burchell. She was raised and educated in Turtle Lake, and moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1946. Rose married Alvin Paul on October 18, 1947 in Bismarck and raised two children, Sharon and Charles Paul. She worked as a waitress and cook for the bus depot. She also worked for Bismarck Super Valu for 18 years and worked her way up to produce manager. Rose moved to Dickinson in 1984 to be a nanny for a family in Dickinson. Rose met and married the love of her life and best friend, George A. Jahner on May 3, 1986, in Dickinson. While in Dickinson, she was active in the Parish Council and a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She and her husband moved to Bismarck in 1996. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She was a life member and past department commander of Disabled American Veterans, and held the Auxiliary State Presidency of the VFW. She also served as District President for six years. In 1996, she was named State Auxiliary President and Hospital Volunteer of the year. From 2004 to 2005 she received two national publicity awards while with the VFW Department President. Rose just received a 2007 Volunteer award from St. Alexius Hospital. Rose enjoyed spending her free time bowling, reading, doing embroidery work, flower gardening, volunteering and baking cookies. Her grandkids and great-grandchildren, Karsen, Kaleb and Ava Blotske fondly referred to her as their "Cookie Grandma." She will always be remembered on all occasions of the wonderful cookies she always had for all family and friends, all wrapped up and ready to give. Every holiday was a special event for her to decorate and give to others. Our last 'Special Event,' was held last Saturday, May 3, 2008 for Rose and George's 22nd wedding anniversary. Rose is survived by her beloved husband, George A. Jahner of Bismarck; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dale Greisch of Allegany, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Paul of Bismarck; her stepson and wife, George and Jan Jahner of Fairhope, AL; grandchildren, Jesse and Sarah Paul of Mandan, Jodi and Kip Blotske of Underwood, Jordan Jahner of Fairhope, AL, Timothy Doll of Bismarck and Tammy Bradford of SunCity, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and John Sloan of WA; brother, Gordon Huston of Minot; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Vi Franchuk of Bismarck, Don and Catherine Franchuk of Dickinson, Sam and Bertha Jahner of Regent, Dorothy and Rodger Nichols of Fargo, John Braun and Pauline Frank both of Willmar, MN; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and good friends, especially, Clem Kottenbrock. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; three grandchildren, Telisa Doll, Shawn and Chantell Paul; brothers, Richard, Donald and Wayne Huston; sister-in-law, Leontine Braun and brother-in-law, Christ Frank.
