Rose Scherbenske

Rose Scherbenske, 89, lifelong resident of Tuttle, ND, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Medcenter One, Bismarck, ND, after a courageous battle against cancer. Services will be held at 11:00 Thursday at Tuttle United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Rose was born August 23, 1918 on the family farm at Tuttle, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Spah Rath. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Tuttle High School. She worked at the Scherbenske Store before she married Robert Scherbenske on January 21, 1947 in a double wedding ceremony with Freda Scherbenske and Forrest Theiling. They made their home in Tuttle, where she was the caregiver of Grandma Scherbenske and her parents. They raised three boys, Norman, Rodney and Arlyn. She worked at the Tuttle School as a cook for 21 years. Rose was active in the Tuttle United Methodist Church and served as Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and many other church functions. She was always willing to help others before doing things for herself and was active in many other organizations which were very important to her. She was also involved in the community, Senior Citizen Center, 4-H Leader and attended all school activities, grandkids activities and loved spending time at family gatherings. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles and family games. She enjoyed cooking and making German dishes for friends and family. She will be greatly missed. Rose is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Brenda and their children, Katie Rose and Kevin of Stewartville, MN, Rodney and Kathy and their son, Dale of Goodrich, ND and Arlyn and Lisa and their children, Lindsey, Jonathan, Julia and Cole of Steele, ND; one sister, Erna Weisenberger of Alexandria, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert and their infant son, Roger; her brothers, Jake, John, Sam and Reuben Rath and her sisters, Lydia Lutz and Amelia Bauer.
