Roy Kuil

Roy was born on January 18, 1932 on a farm in rural Platte, SD. He was the eldest son of Dick and LoisAdams Kuil. Roy passed away at his home in Bismarck ND on July 8, 2014. He had reached the age of 80 years, 5 months and 20 days. At an early age Roy's family moved to a farm near White Lake, SD where Roy attended rural school until the 8th grade. He later received his GED in the military. In 1951 Roy's family moved to the Wagner area and farmed with his Dad. When Roy was 18 he joined the National Guard. Later he joined the Army and served in Korea in 1957 and 1958. Roy was a member of the Veterans' of Foreign Wars and the American Legion at the time of his death. In 1959 Roy married Karen Gentry on July 3rd at the Charles Mix County Courthouse. The couple had two children Deborah, now deceased, and Roy Derk Jr. of Bismarck ND. After being discharged from the Army, Roy worked for Martin Ford, which is where he developed his lifelong passion for Fords. Roy then opened Kuil's Shoe Repair. After several years he sold the business to his parents and then went to work for Buches. In 1969 Roy moved his family to Denver, CO where he worked for Safeway Stores for 28 years until 1996 when he retired. Roy loved to fix things, anything. He also liked to work with wood, his 1959 Ford and his beloved companion dog, Daisy. Roy is survived by, his son Roy Derk Jr.and son in law Gregory Lee Knutson- Kuil of Bismarck ND. Grandchildren Zachariah Lee Derk Kuil, Malakai Robert Kuil of Bismarck, Thomas Michael Cory of Charleston SC, Ronald Nelson Craven the III of Aiken SC, and Ana Lyn Huffman of Lexington NC. Great Grandchildren Allen Huffman of Lexington NC and Micheal and Ashley Craven of Aiken SC. He is also survived by his sister Patience Pat Slaba and brother in law David Slaba of Geddes SD, Brother Fredric and sister in law Marlys of Sioux Falls and Corsica SD, and sister Delila Lila Mattis of Wagner Sd. He is also survived by his best friends of 45 years Glenn and Sharon Lockman of Littleton Colorado. Also many nieces and nephews, and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Richard, wife Karen and daughter Deborah Huffman. Roy will be laid to rest with his wife and daughter in the ZCBJ cemetery rural Wagner, SD, on August 30, 2014, at 2:00 pm.
