Ruby Mae Johnson

Ruby Mae Johnson entered her heavenly home on September 11, 2014. The celebration of her home going will be held at Evangel Assembly of God, 3225 N 14th St, Bismarck, on Monday September 15 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastors Morris Conklin and Josh Skjoldal officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. There will be a visitation at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Avenue, Bismarck, on Sunday, September 14 from 5-7 pm. Ruby was born in Regan, ND, on March 17, 1925, to Joseph and Caroline Hochhalter Michelsen. She graduated as Valedictorian from Regan High School in 1942. While in High School, Ruby played on the Girls Basketball team that went to the State Tournament. She enjoyed watching basketball all her life. In 1942, she moved to Bismarck and attended Interstate Business College. She worked for the State of North Dakota, Amerada Petroleum Company during North Dakota's first oil boom, and at the Bismarck Reminder until her retirement in 1996. After her retirement, she spent countless hours caring for both her sister-in-law and husband through difficult illnesses. Ruby was married to William R. Johnson on November 29, 1946, in Bismarck. They had one daughter, Suzanne Johnson Paulsen. Ruby's grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought her joy. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter and grandchildren all over the United States, Europe and later to visit the great-grandchildren in Arizona, Minnesota, and South Dakota. Ruby was a member of Evangel Assembly of God, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Women's Ministries President. She was the church and choir pianist for 47 years and later played the piano for chapel services at Missouri Slope Care Center. She was faithful in her service wherever she was needed. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne; her grandchildren, Steve Jessica Paulsen, Heidi Jeff Sass and Brent Cassie Paulsen, and great-grandchildren, Braden, Kristian, Cecilia, Adam, Siri, Emily, Owen, and Anders; one sister, Carol David Asplund; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Rollin Michelsen and his wife Doris of Seattle WA; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Johnson, Alice Miller and her husband Harris; a brother-in-law Russell Johnson and his wife Mary of Seattle WA.
