Ruth P Schutz

Ruth Pauline Schutz, Bismarck, died July 31, 2014, at St Alexius Medical Center. Services will be held Tuesday, August 5, at 10:30 a.m. CDT at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 North 6th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, August 4, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide, Bismarck. Ruth was born April 2, 1925, to Carl and Katherine Schutz. She was raised on a farm in the Burt, ND area. She married Roy Mourhess and moved to New York where they began raising their family. They lived in New York for about 20 years before returning to North Dakota. Ruth has lived in Bismarck for the past 50 years, and during that time worked as a sales clerk at Fashion City, Knowles Jewelry, and Herberger's. She retired from Herberger's, and after that spent many hours volunteering her time with groups such as RSVP, and was a member of the German's From Russia group. Ruth had a green thumb and spent much of her free time in the huge garden she planted every summer. She loved growing fruits, vegetables, and had a large flower garden as well. Ruth loved the outdoors, and would frequently travel to Lake Tschida to camp out, sometimes for weeks at a time. She also had a very crafty side, and loved to sew, knit, crochet, cook and bake. Ruth was very proud of her family and loved being able to spend as much time with them as possible. She loved playing games and cards with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her eyes lit up whenever the kids were around. She did a lot of traveling over the years either to visit her brothers, sisters, sons and other family members who lived out of town or to take road trips with her siblings. For years she did an annual trip driving down to Vegas with one or two of her sisters, to spend a week together. Ruth is survived by four children, Gary Judith Mourhess, Bismarck, Joseph Srisawat Tiptong Mourhess, Thailand, Bruce Kathleen Mourhess, Waverly, NY, Kathy Lynn Woodall, Mandan; 10 grandchildren, Scott Kari Mourhess, Circle Pines, MN, Mariko Dava Ralph, Bismarck, ND, Jennifer Greg Schoffner, Beaver Dams, NY, Julie Whitehouse Chris Wilson, Corning, NY, Bruce Jr. Janet Mourhess, Bath, NY, Sean Carey Mourhess, Addison, NY, Amy Russell Meyer, Bismarck, Brian Ricker, Mandan; 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ida Ruben Zimmerman, Carson, ND, Leah Myhre, Calimesa, CA; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Katherine Schutz, and 10 siblings, Carl Schutz, Art Schutz, Ted Schutz, Albert Schutz, Edmond Schutz, Bertha Schulz, Martha Hall, Gertrude Doyle, Esther Zimmerman, Edna Wegner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to McCabe United Methodist Church.
