Selma Boyd Fossum

Selma Boyd Fossum, 95, Bismarck, died February 16, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Selma Boyd Fossum was born November 18, 1918, at Elgin, ND, the daughter of William and Mary Giese. The family lived on a farm north of New Leipzig until Selma was six years old when they moved into New Leipzig. She graduated from New Leipzig High School and attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. Selma worked for Dakota Public Service Company in the district office at Mott, while there she met Earl Boyd. Selma and Earl were married on November 20, 1941, in Burbank, CA. During WWII, she lived in San Diego while Earl was serving in the US Navy. After the war, the couple returned to North Dakota and settled in Bismarck. Selma worked for the Nodak Mutual Insurance Company for 24 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1946 and served as a Lutheran League advisor on the Youth Board and Long Range Planning Committee. She also was a member of Circle 1 and Ladies' Altar Guild. Selma was past-president of Lloyd Spetz Post Auxiliary of the American Legion and past 5th district secretary, and was chairman of Girls State for many years. Selma's husband, Earl, died in 1979. She married Wallace V. Fossum on October 4, 1986. Selma is survived by her son, Dennis Deb Boyd; daughter, Donna Becker; very special daughter-in-law, Miriam Gilbertson; grandchildren, Michael Mary Boyd, Kristin Cory Chorne, Taya Chris Fosland, Scott Kristie Becker, all of Bismarck, and Holly Brent Lockett, Dallas, TX; nine great-grandchildren; and Wally's children and grandchildren, Sandy Greg Stofer and their children, Kevin Alyse Stofer and Kellie Seth Schoenbauer. She is also survived by one brother, Harlan Giese, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her son-in-law, Ron Becker; and her grandson, Todd Becker. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
