Susan Marie Idyle

Susan Marie Idyle, 64, Bismarck, died August 2, at her home with her children after a yearlong battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 6, at Capital Christian Center, 3838 Jericho Rd, Bismarck, with Rev. Dan Kent officiating. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 Sunday, August 5, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Susan was born March 25, 1948, to Pius and Rosemary Weigel. She was born and raised with her sister and two brothers in Bismarck, close to a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She attended St Mary's school and graduated in 1966. After graduation Susan moved to San Francisco with her cousin Linda Hawley, and probably got into trouble only the two will ever know about. While in California, Susan met Patrick Idyle, who was in the US Marine Corps. They were married May 16, 1969. After Pat was discharged, the couple moved back to Bismarck. In 1971, they were blessed with their son, Shane, and again in 1973 with their daughter Shannon. She was blessed years later with two grandsons, Michael 17 and Sawyer 1, and four granddaughters, Haley 16, Kalli 11, Kolbi 8, and Elissa 6. Susan was a member of the North Dakota National Guard. She worked as a homemaker, a Target employee and a licensed hairstylist and instructor. For the past 20 years she worked as a CNA caring for Alzheimer patients, elderly residents, and disabled adults in the community. She loved to cross stitch until the early morning hours. She also loved to watch rodeos and bull riding and seemed to know every bull by name and had a crush on a couple of cowboys. She loved a good auction and made a lot of unusual buys – like a stuffed two-headed calf. The last year of her life was spent battling cancer. In all the ups and downs of treatment Susan's infectious personality and stubborn optimism was inspirational to anyone she met. A trip to the hospital or clinic was much more like going to see family and friends, and at times she was as much of a treatment for them. She knew everyone by name and had a hug for anyone willing. She is survived by her children, Shane and Shelli, and Shannon and Brent; her grandchildren; and her siblings, JP and Tim Weigel, and Karen Norman. S he was preceded in her death by her parents, Pius and Rosemary Weigel; and her nephew, Brandon Norman.
