Theodore Klein

Theodore Ted Klein, 95, Bismarck, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, died peacefully January 8, 2011 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, at First Evangelical Free Church, corner of Washington St. and 43rd Ave, Bismarck, with the Rev. Terry Kern officiating. Interment will take place at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm Tuesday, January 11, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Ted was born April 27, 1915, the son of Dan and Katherine Bollinger Klein. He attended schools in Burleigh, Mclean and Emmons County. He married Olga Brose on March 19, 1939, in Bismarck. Ted and Olga farmed near Menoken after their marriage and in 1942 purchased a farm northeast of Wing where they farmed and ranched until his retirement. In 1955 he and Olga moved to Wing, and consolidated their farming operation to grain production only. In 1958 he became a Burleigh County Commissioner and served 23 years. In 1994 they moved to Bismarck where he resided at the time of his death. Ted enjoyed many great fishing trips to Canada to catch northern and walleye. He also loved coyote hunting with his brothers. Throughout his life he demonstrated his God given gift of "hospitality" – helping all those in need as he could. He loved meeting and visiting with old and new friends alike. In his Commissioner position he willingly listened to any constituent offering his assistance as needed. Honesty and integrity are characteristics defining Ted. Ted is survived by his wife of 71 years, Olga, Bismarck; one daughter, Kathleen Bruce Peterson, Munising, MI; one son, Alan Ginger Klein, Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren, David Tracy Peterson, Lynn Haven, FL; Paul Crystal Peterson, Spokane, WA; Kelly Matt Lundberg, Grand Rapids, MI; Joel Suzanne Peterson, Louisville, KY; nine great-grandchildren, Megan, Jordan, and Alyssa Peterson; Will, Mia, and Sawyer Peterson; Joshua, Jonathan and Julianna Lundberg; one sister, Hilda Mraz, Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry, Louie, Herman, and Ralph; two sisters, Bertha Mahnkey and Lena Bitterman; and all their spouses. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be given to Wing Public School Library Fund, P.O. Box 130, Wing, ND 58494.
