Timothy Nordquist

Timothy Copeland Nordquist, 26, Bismarck, died January 7, 2010, at a Bismarck care center as a result of complications from Batten Disease. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, at Charity Lutheran Church, 120 Aspen Avenue, Bismarck, with Rev. Scott Bauman officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Washburn. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.Tim was born on February 2, 1983, in Bismarck to Donald R. and Kathleen Bertie Nordquist. Tim, a special needs student, attended Pioneer Elementary, Simle Middle School, Bismarck High, and the school district's Life Education Program. Through all his years of schooling, Tim had wonderful teachers and student associations. As he moved into adult life, Tim received assistance from many community aid programs including Support Systems, Inc., Community Options, HIT, Inc., and the staff of Enable, Inc., where he was a resident for the past two and a half years. Those assisting Tim during his life served him well and many remain close to his family. Despite Tim's condition and challenges, he experienced much joy. He was a simple, selfless, soul who never let his disability dampen his spirit and love for life. He was blessed in every aspect of his life by patient teachers, tireless social workers, and a loving church family. Timmy was very accepting of others and touched the heart of everyone that came into his life. His smile was contagious, his hugs frequent, and his comments often brought laughter. Tim kept everyone on their toes with his honesty and innocent hi-jinks. His older brothers were his best friends and he helped them appreciate people with special needs and the contribution they can make to society. Growing up in a Christian home, Tim came to know his Savior and the name of Jesus would brighten up his face. He loved to sing "Jesus Loves Me" with his mom and dad. Tim is now released from the bondage of his body to the freedom of the Children of God. Survivors include his parents; his brothers, Micah Elizabeth Nordquist, Orlando, FL, and Erik Jasmir, Chicago, IL; three nephews, Hatcher, Mason, and Ambrose; one niece, Rocio; his grandmother, Ann Bertie, Dickinson, ND; his aunts and uncles, Pamela Royal Lyson, Center, ND, Jim Tammy Nordquist, McClusky, ND, Jennifer David Bjork, Bismarck, ND, Kimberle Brian Kendall, Warner, SD, Cindy Aaron Krauter, West Fargo, ND, Rick Josie Bertie, Coon Rapids, MN, Beth Jim Shearer, Minnetonka, MN, and Suzanne Dwight Lindquist, New Hope, MN; and many wonderful cousins, great aunts and uncles. Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Bertie, and Donald and Cleo Nordquist. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association bdsra.org.
