Tom Hoffer

Tom Hoffer, 47, passed away October 16, 2012, at his residence in Bismarck. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck with Pastor Jeff Olson officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Tom was born August 11, 1965, to Morrice and Sherry Rettinger Hoffer at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Tom graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1984. Tom continued to further his education and graduated from Culinary Arts School in Washington, D.C. Tom owned and operated Northern Plains Cable Company. He also worked as a chef on the east coast for several years, and at various restaurants in Bismarck-Mandan. Cooking was his true passion. He won several cook-off awards for his ribs and chili. He had many trades and could fix or build anything. Tom enjoyed spending his spare time hunting, fishing, participating in demolition derbies, working on cars, and watching the Washington Redskins and NASCAR. He also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, teaching them how to shoot guns, throw a fishing line, and making ice cream floats. He had the highest respect for our Military and all who served. Tom is survived by his daughter, Kate Hoffer, McDaniel, MD; his parents, Sherri Baker and Raymond Baker, Las Vegas, NV, and Morrice Hoffer and Mickey Hoffer, Bismarck; brothers, Rocky Hoffer, Bismarck, Julian Kalmback, Nampa, ID; sisters, Carrie Gary Winsor, Las Cruces, NM, Lyssa Baker Adrian Zmed, Las Vegas, NV, and Tanya Brent Huber, Bismarck; nephews, Noah Hoffer, Jordan Hoffer, Bismarck, and Timothy Alverez, Nampa, ID; and nieces, Makena and Mayce Chartraw, Gracelyn Huber, Bismarck, and Cristina Alverez, Nampa, ID. Additionally, Tom leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Rett and Bonnie Rettinger, Las Vegas, NV; uncles Rich Rittinger, Las Vegas, NV, and Jeff Tucker, Austin TX; aunts, Debbie Bob Kirkpatrick, Chandler AZ, Glenice Stuker, Pahrump, NV, Annetta Rudland, Bismarck, Sandy Gonzales, Bismarck, Kim Dennis Paasch, Bismarck, Bev Tonander, Bismarck, Kathy Bob Junghans, North Oaks, MN, and Terri Stoller Bill Corkill, Bloomington, MN; plus too many cousins to mention, who will miss him dearly; and his longtime special friend, Chris Selby. Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Hoffer, Edna Sperry, Ruby Alice Baker, and Marie Stoller; his aunt, Janice Schotl; and beloved pet, Niko.
