Troy Riedlinger

Troy Riedlinger, 39, Grand Forks, died peacefully at his home with all of his family members and best friends at his side on Friday, August 7, 2009, of Pancreatic Cancer. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will also be a memorial service and gathering held in Grand Forks on Monday, August 10, at 7:00 pm at the Rydell Cadillac Showroom. Troy was born May 2, 1970, in Bismarck, ND, the son of Galen and Betty Mickelson Riedlinger. He grew-up in Bismarck, where he became an Eagle Scout. Troy graduated from Bismarck High School in 1988 and from Bismarck State College in 1990. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota in the early 90s. Troy remained in Grand Forks the last nineteen years and was employed with Rydell Auto Center for the past 13 years. Troy had an extreme passion for hockey, especially Sioux hockey and the St. Louis Blues. He enjoyed deer hunting in the Badlands, and pheasant hunting with his father and brother-in-law, Larry; riding his Harley and telling jokes. Troy was a casual and simple man who had an extreme passion for life. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Troy had quite the sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Even when he became ill, Troy always had a joke or two for anyone he encountered. Troy was a caring and giving man who loved people from all walks of life. His home was always open to everyone. If anyone needed a helping hand Troy was always there expecting nothing in return. Although Troy had a “tough guy” image, he still believed it was ok to tell your friends and family, “I Love You!”…and he did. Troy was courageous. His confirmation bible verse sums it up, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. He had an incredible will to live and despite his illness and constant setbacks he continued to stay positive, fight harder, and never give up. He was an inspiration and role model to all his family and friends and will be missed by all tremendously. We have comfort knowing Troy is with God and in a better place. He will remain in our memories and hearts forever. Troy is survived by his parents, Galen and Betty Riedlinger, Bismarck; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Larry Lunder, Mandan, and Tracy and Dale Knutson, Spring, TX; his brother, Brant Riedlinger, St. Paul, MN; his nephews, Daltyn and Bradyn Knutson, Spring, TX; and his two “girls”, his Rottweiler, Cinnamon, and his Black Lab, Sammy. He was preceded in death by, his maternal and paternal grandparents, Frank and Rose Mickelson and Jake and Helen Riedlinger; and his uncles, Ernest “Buddy” Mickelson, James and Jerry Riedlinger, and Anton Tschosik.
