Una Kolberg

Una May Kolberg, 94, Bismarck, died December 25, 2008, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone, with Pastor Joan DeKrey and Brian Gross officiating. Burial will be in Weiser Cemetery, Pettibone, in the Spring.. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Saturday and from1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Una was born November 29, 1914, in Robinson, ND, the oldest daughter of Jay P. and Lena Russ Whitman. She grew up and attended school in Robinson, graduating from Robinson High School in 1933. She went on to attend Valley City Teachers College, where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught school in Dawson, Robinson, Drake and Wishek. On September 1, 1949, she married Edwin Kolberg in Robinson. They farmed south of Pettibone and she taught school in Pettibone. In May 1977 they moved into Pettibone and in 1995 she moved to Bismarck. Una had a strong Christian faith, which was very evident during her last days. She was always putting others first and was always interested in what was happening with her family. She enjoyed crocheting, keeping a large garden, and hosting family and friends at her home. She was a great cook! Una was an active member of Malcolm Congregational Church, teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, and playing the organ. She was also active in the Church Ladies Aid and Weiser Homemakers Club. She is survived by her children, Lorna Pat Gross, Bismarck, ND, Ron Diane Kolberg, Pettibone, ND, and Robert Jeanne Kolberg, Bismarck, ND; three sisters, Faye Knoblich, Jamestown, ND, Alpha John Edward DeKrey, Pettibone, ND, and Nora Sannes, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Brian Gross, Columbus, OH, Heidi Gross, Portland, OR, Dana Brandon Hirsch, Washington D.C., Stephen and Alyson Kolberg, Mechanicsville, VA, and Fiona and Norah Kolberg, Bismarck, ND; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Kolberg, Denver, CO, and Catherine Kolberg, Harvey, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin whom died on August 31, 1980; two sons, Dean Kolberg whom died on July 3, 2006, and Roy Kolberg whom died on November 8, 1999; and her parents. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the care that they provided to Una.
