Vern Giedd

Romans 8:25 "For if we hope for what we do not see we eagerly wait for it with perseverance." Verner "Vern" Giedd, 73, Bismarck, died April 17, 2011, at his home. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 22, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Pastor Vern Picknally officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veteranï¿½s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Vern was born on March 23, 1938, the son of Albert and Regina Knippelberg Giedd. He grew up in the Washburn area and graduated from high school there. After enlisting in the Navy and serving three years of active duty in San Francisco and Pearl Harbor he returned to Washburn where he was employed with Hoffman Motors. He then moved to Bismarck to work for Corwin Churchill Motors as parts manager for the next 38 years. He was a very conscientious employee, always striving to please his employer and the customers whom he served to the best of his abilities. At the start of his career with Corwin Churchill, he met and married his wife Iris Koehler on November 20, 1966; the couple was blessed with four sons. Vern came to realize later in his life, the importance of loving God and family and tried to show that love both by what he said and what he did, though he regretted not doing it sooner. Ecclesiastes 8:6 "And a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment, because for every matter there is a time and judgment." He will be missed greatly by us, but we are relieved to see his struggle end. "The strife is o'er, the victory's won "Alleluia!" Quote: "That best portion of a man's life, His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love." William Wordsworth Psalm 30:5b- "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." Vern is survived by his wife, Iris, Bismarck; his children, Brad Kerry, Orlando, FL, Tim Mandie, Colorado Springs, CO, Greg Tanya, Thornton, CO, and Nathan Joy, Lake Worth, FL; ten grandchildren and two more on the way. Other relatives whom he loved and that will miss him are, Don Gladys Walz, Bismarck, Roger Gladys Giedd, Escondido, CA, Dennis Sharon Hanson, Turtle Lake, ND, and Margo Wanner-Senger, Colorado Springs, CO; his sisters-in-law, June Dennis Barthel, Valencia, CA, and Grace Jim Mumby, Renton, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or Teen Challenge.
