William Ternes

William R. Ternes, 76, Bismarck, died August 21, 2009, at Medcenter One Hospital after a long illness. Services will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. William Roland was born on April 30, 1933, to Emmanuel and Aurora Miller Ternes. He grew up on a farm in the Raleigh/Flasher, ND, area. He married Clendora Havens February 3, 1953. Together they made their home in Bismarck, and then moved to Thief River Falls, MN, for nine years, before returning back to Bismarck. Bill was employed for 37 years at Firestone until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and a life member of the Elk’s and Eagles Club. Bill loved traveling, woodworking, watching and feeding the birds, gardening and working in his yard. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, especially the Orioles and the Colts. His family and friends cherish the memories of all the times spent together. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Clendora, Bismarck; his five children, Blaine Shar Ternes, Thief River Falls, MN, Bruce Patty Ternes, Rockford, MN, Jane Carey Thingelstad, Camby, IN, Jean Terry Suby, Northwood, ND, and Billy Susie Ternes, Bismarck; his nine grandchildren, Shannon Christina Ternes, Brieanna Ternes, Sara Suby Dan Vigesaa, Rory and Drew Suby, Nick and Mickenzy Ternes, and Corey and Kelly Thingelstad; his two step-grandsons, Dustin and Cody Randall; his three great-grandchildren, William and Mason Ternes, and Seven Vigesaa; his two brothers, Victor Mary Ternes, Flasher, ND, and Roger Ternes, Cathedral City, CA; his sister-in-law, Mavis Ternes, Lemmon, SD, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurora and Emanuel Ternes; five brothers, Peter, Matt, Dee, Vern, and baby Peter; and two sisters, Hildegard and Isabelle. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tony Tello, his assistant Tara, his nurse, Jessica and the staff at MedCenter One.
