Wilma Matties

Wilma Lorraine Matties, 84, Bismarck, died June 29, 2007, at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel in Bismarck with Rev. Nathan Steen officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Center. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service. Wilma was born on February 20, 1923, in McClusky, ND, the daughter of Adolph and Lydia Schaeffer Helm. She grew up in McClusky and met her future husband, Norman R. Matties, when she worked for Walter and Ann Matties in Denhoff, ND. Wilma and Norman were married on October 15, 1943. After many years, they made Center, ND, their home. Wilma worked at the hardware store, and was always able to be counted on to help others in the community. Norman died in a car accident on April 29, 1972, in Center. Wilma then moved to Mandan, ND, and later to Bismarck, ND, and lived at Edgewood Vista for the last three years. Wilma loved fishing and camping especially if fishing was involved. She had a beautiful yard and garden due to her dedicated care. She enjoyed catching a walk with her neighbors as they made their way to the mail box to get their mail. Wilma worked for Coast to Coast in Mandan, and especially enjoyed her eleven years she tended children in daycare. Wilma was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Anita Matties of Rugby, ND; her daughter, Connie Davis of Aransas Pass, TX; five grandchildren, Deanna Cahoon, Clint Cahoon, Dayna Frank, Andrea Matties, and Aaron Matties; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Matties, Dayla Frank, Damon Frank, Codie Cahoon, Cerria Cahoon, Taylor Kahl, and Lila Cahoon; five sisters, Olivia Nigrin, Elaine Neff, and Alvina Krueger, all of McClusky, and Pat Schmitke and Laverna Knapp, both of Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Gertie Helm and Janice Helm of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; her sister, Adeline Hornbacher; and her brothers, Baldwin, Ardell, and Ervin Helm.
