Adeline Sprenger

Adeline Sprenger, 96, Bismarck, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Mary in Bismarck with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Adeline was born on September 1, 1914, in Artas, SD, to Henry and Christine Kautz. She graduated from Eureka High School and continued on to receive her LPN certification. Adeline then traveled to Lodi, CA, where she met Albert Sprenger. They were married on October 3, 1937, and returned to North Dakota in 1942 where they farmed until moving to Bismarck in 1948. She worked as a nurse at Bismarck Hospital for nearly 40 years and especially enjoyed the many years she spent working in pediatrics. Following their retirement, Adeline and Albert moved to Carson. Albert's health continued to decline and he passed away in 1989. Adeline continued to reside in Carson until November 2009 when her battle with Alzheimer's progressed and she moved to Edgewood Vista and then to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center where she spent her final weeks. Adeline will be fondly remembered for her German cooking, her love of baking, particularly wine cake and lemon bars, and her sense of humor and feisty wit which stayed with her to the end. She truly loved to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Adeline is survived by her children, Dale Rita Sprenger, Madison, WI, Kathy Gary Hertz, Bismarck, ND, and Karen Dennis Carter, Carson, ND; her grandchildren, Keylee Reiss Hertz Barnett and their children, Savannah, Keller, and Elliot, Shonna Troy Hertz Guthmiller and their new daughter, Scarlett, who was born just a few hours after Adeline passed away, Brittney Hertz, Kaid Hertz, Rick Sprenger, Tim Sprenger, and Jessica Ruona; her sister, Verna Schutt, Rancho Cordova, CA; a niece she was very close to, Carol Peterson, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; one son, Gary; and her siblings, Tyler, Bertha, Ervin, Hilda, Luella, and Alvin. The family wishes to thank the staff of Edgewood Vista and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the kind and respectful care Adeline received over the last year. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
