Aloys Burgad

Aloys J. Burgad, 85, Bismarck, died October 27, 2009, at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck with Rev. Marvin Klemmer and Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #1326. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 3:00 – 5:00 PM and Sunday from 3:00 – 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a vigil service will be held on Sunday at 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Aloys was born on September 10, 1924, in Strasburg, ND, the son of John and Katherine Reis Burgad. He grew up on the family farm and attended a country school near Strasburg. On February 28, 1946, he entered the US Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon his discharge on April 10, 1947, Aloys returned home to his parents’ farm. On November 4, 1947, he married Alice Silbernagel at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg. In 1952, they purchased their farm located seventeen miles west of Strasburg. They resided at this location until his retirement at age 62. Aloys and Alice then made their home in Linton until 2005 before relocating to their current residence in Bismarck. Aloys had a great sense of humor and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Besides enjoying the outdoors and spending countless hours at the family farm after his retirement, he loved watching polka music and the news on TV. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Aloys is survived by his wife, Alice of Bismarck; his children, Doris Wayne Johnson of Fargo, Shirlin Curt Sand of Ellendale, Arlen Cindi Burgad, homestead farm west of Strasburg, Pam Ferderer and special friend, Tom McCormick, of Bismarck, Carla David Zinnel of Bismarck, and Allen Lee Burgad of Argusville; eight grandchildren, Tara Ulmer, Nathan Sand, Amber Potter, Eric Burgad, Aaron Burgad, Ashlee Burgad, Courtney Burgad, and Travis Burgad; three great-grandchildren, Riley Ulmer, Reese Ulmer, and Jaeger Sand; four sisters, Angie Hager of Linton, Marge Tschosik of Bismarck, Helen Eddie Kramer of Strasburg, and Hermina Mattern of Bismarck; and one brother, John Burgad of Linton. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ann Wikenheiser.
