Arnold Berg

Arnold R. Berg died on November 29, 2005, in Bismarck,from natural causes at the age of 95. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arnold was born May 2, 1910, to his parents, Carl J. and Ida Berg, on the family farm in Crosby, North Dakota. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1927 and was engaged in farming until 1934 when he began working for the North Dakota State Highway Department as a member of an engineering crew. Arnold married Mayme H. Anderson on December 28, 1937, at Crosby, North Dakota. They were married for 47 years. Arnold worked on highway construction projects until 1941 when he was transferred to the central office located in Bismarck. He was assigned to the Roadway Design Division. During WWII, he worked on the engineering phases of defense projects at Sioux City, Iowa, and Liberal, Kansas. He was a registered professional engineer and a life member of the North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He received the American Association of State Highway Officials 25 year service award. At the time of his retirement in 1975, he held the position of First Design Engineer. After retirement from the State Highway Department, Arnold and Mayme were able to travel to Europe and the Bahamas as well as Hawaii. Arnold's hobbies included woodworking and coin collecting. Arnold loved refinishing antique furniture and making furniture. Arnold also did some fishing when he needed a break from the yard work and woodworking. Arnold was a life member of the Bismarck Elks Lodge and was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Arnold is survived by his daughters, Barbara Feldmann of Kent, OH, and Carol Sheedy of Clifton Park, NY; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Wanda Berg of Bismarck; four granddaughters, Aissa Feldmann, Robin Sheedy, Andrea Brauner, and Bekki Dietrich; one grandson, Kevin Sheedy; and two great grandchildren, Dalen and Maddie Brauner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mayme who died in 1984.
