Arthur Pfaff

Arthur Pfaff, 78, Tappen, died January 25, 2006 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at Zion United Methodist Church, Tappen with the Rev. Darwin Kopfmann officiating. Burial will be in the Fisher Cemetery, Tappen. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Saturday, 1:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 Sunday evening. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Art was born December 23, 1927, on the family farm south of Tappen, ND, the son of Simon and Katherina Mittleider Pfaff. He grew up and attended country school south of Tappen. Art worked on the family farm until he was 21 and then worked in the gold mines near Leads, SD. He worked construction for T.H. Vickers, which later was purchased by Hutton Contracting Co. He was an honorable man and a special friend to many, especially his boss Marlin. Art also worked in the potato fields near Tappen for 4 years. On September 7, 1951, he married Delores Kluth at the Methodist Church in Tappen. They made their home in Tappen. Art served on the Tappen City Council. He did a lot of carpenter work, building houses and schools. He also enjoyed woodworking and working on old tractors, making sausage, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Art was a member of the Zion Methodist Church in Tappen. Art is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores of Tappen; his four children, Beatrice "Tootie" and Al Schauer of Waubay, SD, Ernest "Ernie" and Janet Rohrich Pfaff of Tappen, Kenneth "Kenny" and Betty Mueller Pfaff of Tappen and Patricia "Patty" and Tim Thorsness of Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Billy and Heather Pfaff, Shauna and Chris Justice, Kristi and Nathan Dockter, Rick Schauer and special friend, Alyssa, Kenny Pfaff, Jr., Garrett Pfaff, and Josh Pfaff; four great-grandchildren, Keyra, Tori, McKinsey, and Ethan; his brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Marcy Pfaff, Simon and Hertha Pfaff, and Elmer and Betty Pfaff all of Tappen; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha and Emil Roemmick, Mary and Harold Weixel, and Esther and Jim Schumacher all of Jamestown; three step-grandchildren, Dean Schauer, Steve and Luanna Schauer, and Vickie and Don Larcher; eight step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers John, Jake, and Benjamin; one grandson, Robert Pfaff; and one step-granddaughter, Paulette Schauer.
