Betty McNeil

Betty Jett McNeil, 102, Bismarck, died February 6, 2004, at a Bismarck care center. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at McCabe United Methodist Church in Bismarck with the Rev. Art Scanson and Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar, Minnesota. Visitation will be Monday from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at St. Vincent's Care Center, Monday from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service, and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Betty Jett was born on May 11, 1901, at Palmyra, Wisconsin, the daughter of A.C. and Louise McMurray Jett. She was raised and attended schools in Wisconsin where she graduated from Richland County Normal School. Betty taught school for two years before attending Bethel Academy in Wilmore, Kentucky, where she graduated in 1922. She then attended Asbury College at Wilmore, Kentucky. Betty married J. Ralph McNeil at the Methodist Church in Platteville, Wisconsin, on September 2, 1925. They moved to North Dakota where her husband served as pastor in several Methodist churches. They relocated to Herman, Minnesota, where her husband served the United Methodist Church until 1966 when they moved to Willmar, Minnesota. Betty served alongside her husband throughout his ministry with devotion and care for her family and for the churches they were in. She was a woman of strong faith who believed in living her life as an example of prayer, bible study, and service to others. Up until the day Betty died, she read her bible daily and kept current on the news, reading the paper and watching television reporting. J. Ralph died in 1973 and in 1988, Betty moved to Mandan, North Dakota, to be near her daughter. She entered St. 's Care Center in 1997 and continued developing friendships with the staff and residents. Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Maurice McNeil and Carmen of Glencoe, Minnesota; her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Ike Aichele of Bismarck; her grandchildren, Mike, Bruce, and Keith McNeil, Denise Hamilton, and David Aichele; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Kenneth; and her sisters, Carol, Mary, and Florence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to McCabe United Methodist Church Building Fund.
