Delton Wallace Wulf

Delton W. Wulf, 88, Bismarck, died March 15, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 18, 2011, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Ray Baker officiating. Burial will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, March 18, at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, March 17, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Delton Wallace was born October 13, 1922, in Dodge, ND, the son of Richard R. and Edith Bratz Wulf. The family lived in Garrison where Delton graduated from Garrison High School in 1941. He was confirmed and joined the Garrison Congregational Church. While in high school, Delton worked at the Garrison Theater and Standard Station. Following high school, he enlisted in the Navy Seabees at Portland, OR, on January 14, 1943, and was sent to Norfolk, VA, for boot camp. From there he was sent to New Foundland then to Guam until discharge from Bremerton, WA, in March 1946. Delton enlisted in the Navy Reserve and later transferred to the Army Reserve and retired after 32 years and seven months. After his discharge he went back to Garrison and worked for his father as a carpenter apprentice. He also worked at the Truax Trayer coal mine, and leased a Standard Station in Garrison. In April 1949, Delton went to work for the Corp of Engineers in Riverdale as an equipment operator and later as maintenance foreman. On July 1, 1949, he married Jeanne Danielson in the Swedish Mission Church in rural Wilton. They lived in Riverdale for 23 years and it was there where their two sons were born; Lennell in 1950 and Jerry in 1954. Delton and Jeanne were members of the Riverdale Community Church for 50 years. Delton was church treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #281, served on the Riverdale School Board, Federal Credit Union, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #6940 in Underwood and lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1199 in Bismarck. Both Delton and Jeanne were associate members at McCabe United Methodist Church in Bismarck. Delton liked to trap shoot, bowled for several years, and enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. In November 2000, he was in his glory to be able to hunt geese, ducks, and deer with his two sons and two grandsons and later with another grandson joining them. In 2010, a great-grandson was added to the family. Delton built his first boat from a kit and many years were spent on the water with family and friends' water skiing, cruising and fishing. Later, a camper was purchased and many trips were made around North and South Dakota. The family camped their way to the Montreal World's Fair and the Seattle World's Fair. They made several trips to Seattle to visit a sister, Delores and family, as well as a brother, Larry and his wife Mary Lynn, living in Mounds View, MN. Family was very important to Delton and he enjoyed doing activities with them. Delton and Jeanne built a home along Lake Audubon where they moved in 1972. Delton retired in August of 1980 and with Jeanne they continued to travel, either by travel trailer, bus, or cruise liner. They have been to all the US states except for two, and went on tours to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. One winter was spent in Texas and several in Mesa and Apache Junction, AZ. On July 1, 1999, Delton and Jeanne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends and their 60th wedding anniversary on July 1, 2009. When Delton was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease, another move was made in 2005 to the Waterford. Later he lived for a short time at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center before finally settling in at the Good Samaritan Society where Jeanne could also have an apartment and see him on a daily basis. Delton is survived by his wife, Jeanne, Bismarck; his sons, Lennell Audrey, Coleharbor, and Jerry Mary, Inver Grove Heights, MN; his grandsons, Jesse Kayla, Joshua Melissa and Brian; his granddaughter, Alison and his great-grandson, Blaine; his sister, Delores Brost, Seattle, WA; and his brother, Larry Mary Lynn Wulf, Mounds View, MN; six nieces and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
