Doris Kuntz

Doris L. Kuntz, 65, Bismarck, died December 5, 2007, at a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 - 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service and will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Doris L. Traub was born on March 11, 1942, in Minot, ND, the daughter of Emil and Anna Henne Traub. Doris was the oldest daughter of five children so she stayed busy growing up on the family farm located just east of Garrison, ND. After graduating from Garrison High School in 1960, Doris moved to Bismarck to attend Capitol Community College. She also began working at Wagner Insurance at this time. This job launched her into a 45-year career in the insurance industry. While living in Bismarck, Doris met Ray Kuntz through mutual friends. Doris and Ray were married in Garrison on December 14, 1963, amid a cold snap that was legendary to those in attendance. Doris and Ray made their home in Bismarck, raising two daughters and later doting on their two granddaughters. Doris was active in multiple church, community, school, and insurance activities. She taught Sunday school at Faith Lutheran Church for more than a decade, held various offices in the local Jaycee's Chapter and Statewide Insurance Association, and volunteered for numerous school events. She also pursued advanced training in insurance and shared her expertise with her coworkers along with both commercial and residential customers while working at a number of insurance agencies in the Bismarck-Mandan area. She was most recently employed with Starion Financial Insurance in Mandan. But throughout it all, Doris' first priority was her family. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her granddaughters' many endeavors from music, soccer, and volleyball, to dance and Odysee of the Mind. Whatever they were doing, Amanda and Jessica knew Grandma would be there cheering them on. Doris was also adept at all forms of needlework and sewing, from knitting and tatting, to cross-stitch and quilting. She enjoyed sharing these skills with "her girls". Most recently, she was delighted when the girls inherited her love of and talent for quilting. Doris was lucky that she had acquired a gifted green thumb from her parents. She enjoyed sharing tips and plants with all of her family. Most of all, her family will miss her and the way she loved and supported them all. She is survived by her husband, Ray Kuntz of Bismarck; her daughters, Kathy Kuntz and her husband, Henry Huemmer of Madison, WI, and Karyn Paul of Bismarck; her granddaughters, Amanda Bittner and Jessica Paul, of Bismarck; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Jerry Moe of El Paso, TX, Jeannie and Carl Winbauer of Crestview, Florida, and Patricia and Dennis Lee of Great Falls, MT; and her brother, Rodney Traub of Fargo, ND; five nieces; three nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Anna Traub and her grandson, Robert Bittner.
