Frank Hondl

Frank Hondl, 70, Bismarck, passed away on October 9, 2008, at his home under Hospice care and his loving family around him. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck. Burial will be at ND Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan with military honors provided by VFW Post #1326. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Frank was born on July 3, 1938, in Dickinson, ND, the son of Frank and Mary Simek Hondl. He attended schools in Dickinson. Frank enlisted in the Navy in 1955 and received his recruit training at Great Lakes, IL. He then went to Airman School at Norman, OK. Upon completion of this school, he was transferred to Norfolk, VA, and then overseas to French Morocco, North Africa, where he served for 20 months. He was stationed at Jacksonville, FL, Naval Air Station with the attack squadron VA 172 Blue Bolts. He served on the Carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt with the Blue Bolts in the Mediterranean. Frank was honorably discharged in 1959. In 1963, Frank moved to Vancouver, WA, where he married Anaclete “Ann” Glaser on May 18, 1963. He worked in construction and in 1969, started his own company, H & Y Construction. In 1975, he moved back to Dickinson where he again started his own business, Hondl Construction. In 1985, he and his wife returned to Vancouver, WA, where he worked for Shilo Inns as construction supervisor, building motels up and down the west coast. In 1999, Frank and Ann returned to Bismarck to retire. Frank enjoyed his six grandchildren, his motor home, boating, fishing, and spending winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Elks. He is survived by his wife, Anaclete “Ann” of Bismarck; his daughter, Roxanne Mike Conti of Mancelona, MI; his son, Rick Lunette Hondl of Dickinson, ND; six grandchildren, Heather Danny Stedman of Stockbridge, MI, Christopher Hondl of Fargo, ND, Jordy Hondl of Bismarck, ND, and Jonathan, Sarah, and Jacquie Conti of Mancelona, MI; two brothers, Albert Effie Hondl of Dickinson, ND, Vince Julie Hondl of Dickinson, ND, and four sisters, Millie Jerry Perdaems of South Heart, ND, Lillian Kuchenski of Dickinson, ND, Mary Vetter of Bismarck, ND, and Fran Mike Friedt of Kingman, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; and one infant sister.
