Frieda Borth

Frieda Borth, 90, passed into her heavenly Father's kingdom with her daughter and granddaughters by her side on March 5, 2014, at St. Gabriel's Community, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 14, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1004 East Highland Acres Rd, Bismarck, with Rev. Donna Dohrmann officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Frieda was born June 3, 1923, in Halliday, ND, the daughter of Adolph and Lydia Entzel. She graduated from Halliday High School in 1943. She then attended Dickinson State Teacher's College and received her teaching certificate. On July 2, 1944, she married Herbert Borth in Gainesville, TX, while Herb was stationed there with the US Army. To this union three children were born, Sheila, Dale, and Randi. Frieda and Herbert purchased a farm northwest of Werner in 1951. Frieda also taught at Hope School District #1, which was near the family farm. They later moved into Werner and operated a general store. Herb and Frieda both served as postmaster while in Werner. In 1965, they moved to Bismarck where Frieda became a proofreader for the Bismarck Tribune and Quality Printing. Herb sold real estate and insurance and also farmed and raised cattle near Bismarck. Herb was in a fatal auto crash in 1974. Frieda remained active in her and Herb's social circle after his passing. Frieda loved to play pinochle and frequently told her children, "I was high man." Frieda later took a secretarial course at Bismarck State College and was hired by BSC where she worked for several years. She had many interests; she loved to cook and bake, and always kept a lovely home and was very gifted in the art of decorating. Upon retirement, Frieda went on many trips in the US. Spending time with her family was one of her greatest pleasures. Frieda is survived by her children, Sheila Quentin Retterath, Dale Dovie, and Randi Jennifer; her sister, Leontina Borth; her granddaughters, Patricia Cameron Johnson, Maria Retterath Michael Burtness, and Alexis Borth; her great-grandchildren, Tamarah, Cassandra, and Landyn Johnson, and Levi Retterath; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; her brother, Otto Entzel; and her sisters, Tillie Mock, Amelia Huber, Hulda Lorenz, Elsie Allmendinger and Erna Renner. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Gabriel's for their wonderful caregiving of Frieda and for all the concern, support, and help given to the family in Frieda's last few days. Frieda was very loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
