Ruth Backman

“God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you, and whispered, “Come with Me.”Ruth Backman, 84, Bismarck, died July 24, 2008 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at 10:30 am at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Ruth was born August 15, 1923, in Wilton, ND, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Klein Ollenburger. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1941 and went on to teach rural school in the Wilton area. She married Ralph Backman on December 12, 1946 and they farmed southwest of Wilton until Ralph’s death on October 11, 1965. Following her husband’s passing, Ruth moved to Bismarck where she worked for Sears and Conlins. The love of Ruth’s life was her family. She dedicated her life to them. She is survived by children, Kaye James Dalbec, Olathe, KS, Nancy Dale Bohl, Janet Garvin and Gary Carol Backman, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Steven Barbara Dalbec, Marana, AZ, Tamara Brad Bodine, Olathe, KS, Jason Dalbec Kent James Atlanta, GA, Travis Backman and Michael Lori Backman, Bismarck, ND; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Dalbec, Marana, AZ, Brandon and Leah Sewester, Olathe, KS, Jordyn Backman, Bismarck, ND and step-great grandchildren, Ellen and Anna Bodine, Olathe, KS; sister, Thelma “Tudy” Garland Grosgebauer and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph, daughter, Kathleen; parents, Henry and Minnie Ollenburger and brother, Irving Ollenburger. The family wishes to give special thanks to the dedicated staff at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center West View Unit and Medcenter One Hospice.
