Bill Paul

Wilhard ?Bill? Paul, 74, died peacefully on Friday, May 27, at Medcenter One St. Vincent?s Care Center in Bismarck after a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, May 30, at the Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 31, at the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Bill was born in Emmons County on October 29, 1936, the son of Bernard ?Ben? and Gertrude Bachmeier Paul. He grew up on a farm near Winona in southwestern Emmons County and attended rural schools and high school in Strasburg. After a brief stint in the Air Force, Bill received a medical discharge. He moved to Bismarck in 1954, and married Margaret Eckroth at the Church of St. Mary in Bismarck on October 29, 1956. Bill began working for Frito-Lay in Bismarck in 1957, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1992. Upon his retirement, Bill worked at various jobs, including, the Bismarck Parks and Recreation Service, until officially retiring in 1998. Bill was a very socialable person, and his special joy was visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, and spending time at the family lake home. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making them laugh and playfully teasing them. He was a life member of the Bismarck-Mandan Elks Lodge, the Bismarck Eagles Club, and the AMVETS Post #9 of Bismarck. Bill entered St. Vincent?s Care Center on May 16, 2011. Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife, Margaret, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Catherine Paul of Iberia, MO, and Kevin and Lisa Paul of Clearwater, MN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Gene Larson of York and Carolyn and Mark Weber of Linton; seven grandchildren, Crystal Blotsky, David Paul, Kristopher Jessica and Tanner Larson, Courtney Dan Volochenko and Ben and Nicholas Paul, and three great-grandchildren, Slayde and Cai Blotsky and Sutton Larson; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Paul of Bismarck; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Victor Thayer of Olympia, WA, Ellen and Mike Nagel of Linton, and Diane and Vince Swenson of Bismarck; special friends, Mark and Clem Stein of Bismarck; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Flora Eckroth; and one sister in infancy, Carolyn.
