Cody Orellana

Cody Luciano Orellana, son of Owaldo and Bobbi Reuther Orellana and grandson of Peg Reuther, Mandan, entered his heavenly home on February 12, 2008. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck with Rev. Tim Jenks officiating. Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery at New Salem, North Dakota where Cody will be laid to rest beside his Grandfather, Rodney Reuther, who preceded him in death. Cody Luciano Orellana lived his entire short life of 5 months and 2 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Hinsdale Adventist Hospital at Hinsdale, Illinois. While he was never allowed to experience life outside of the unit, his struggle to live, his spirit and his heart touched the lives of many; especially those of his doctors and nurses and all who were associated with the hospital. Others also touched were family and friends and other people connected by prayers chains that reached the four corners of the United States and beyond. Cody Luciano Orellana was born on September 10, 2007, the son of Owaldo and Bobbi Reuther Orellana. Despite his birth weight of 1 pound 2 tenths of an ounce and his parents being told he probably wouldn't make it through the night, God had other plans and allowed us time to love him and in turn for him to love us. We were privileged to witness many little miracles and were given lots of little joys as we watched him grow to "our little man" and reach 6 pounds and 10 ounces. We will miss seeing the excitement in his arms reaching for his Daddy, as he approached the basinet or "the big boys bed" to pick him up or speak to him. We will miss holding him in our arms and reading or singing to him. We will miss watching him reach for the monkey on his Rain Forest mobile while he listened to music from various CD's. We will miss seeing him let us know that he didn't like it when the music had stopped and there was silence. We will miss seeing him clutch one of his favorite stuffed toys, a bright colorful centipede. We will miss the sparkle in his eyes, the spirit of his body, and his little fingers wrapped around our fingers. Yes, "our little man, or "Cody Bear" as he was often referred to, will be missed forever but will be forever in our hearts. He is survived by his parents, Owaldo and Bobbi Reuther Orellana of Bensenville, IL; his step-brother, Owaldo Orellana Jr. of Chicago, IL; his grandmothers, Mercedas Orellana of Chicago,IL and Peggy Reuther of Mandan, ND. Also surviving are several uncles and aunts, Blaine and Micki Fischer of Hazen, ND, Jose Oscar Orellana, Martin and Aida Luz Orellana, Victor Silva and Leydi Orellana all of Chicago, IL, and Maria Esther Orellana of El Salvador and Armando and Anna Orellana of Los Angeles, CA; as well as numerous cousins. Preceding him in death were his other grandfather, Luciano Orellana, and his great-grandparents, Harvey and Elda Thiel and Walter and Grace Reuther. A memorial service was held at the Good Shepherd Chapel in the Hinsdale Hospital on February 15, 2008.
